Children should start seeing the dentist around their first birthday, or within six months of the eruption of their first tooth. This first visit helps your child become familiar with our office and allows us to ensure that their teeth are erupting as they should.

Both the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that children see the dentist every six months for comprehensive oral evaluations and dental cleanings. Regular dental visits are key to a healthy smile!

Unless a tooth is on the verge of falling out, a cavity in a baby tooth should be treated. That said, a filling isn’t always necessary. We offer Silver Diamine Fluoride, or SDF, which can halt a cavity’s progress without requiring drilling.

Our Tijeras area office offers nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to help children relax during their dental treatments. If your child has special needs or requires extensive dental work, we can perform procedures under general anesthesia with an anesthesiology team at Presbyterian or Lovelace hospitals.

Rest assured, we take a conservative approach to dental x-rays for children and only use them when needed. Our digital radiography equipment emits much less radiation than traditional x-rays, which makes them safer for our patients.
